The Whim

An ad from 1976

[Whim 1999] The most famous student restaurant in Cambridge - known outside Cambridge (e.g. occasional mentions in national newspapers).

It had an enormous cosmopolitan menu and in that respect was similar to The Varsity (St Andrew's St.) and the three Eros restaurants, which were in Free School Lane (now the Eraina), Petty Cury (the original one, now the upstairs of Next?) & St John's St.

The restaurant opened at 8am on weekdays for breakfasts (10am on Sundays). The upstairs area was self-service.

The Whim closed in the early Eighties and the building was the occupied by Liberty and then Hobbs.
