- Closed as the Durham Ox on 7th October 2000
and sold to the owner of the adjacent Varsity House, who intends to convert it to a cybercafe.
After a quick refurb, it reopened at the end of the month as Chariots of Fire, with a mini-bar operating.
- The Durham Ox at is was:
- After years of only having Whitbread beers, in 1999 had Everards and Ridleys as guest beers

- Pinball machine & ancient Christmas tree
- Was nearly sold as part of the redevelopment of the area for student housing c1996 but planning permission wasn't obtained
- Sold off by Whitbread to the landlord years ago - in 1999 Neville celebrated his 30th anniversary there
(not all of that time as owner)
